Title: Laser therapy in dental pain management

The first uses of lasers in dentistry consisted of their application in oral soft tissue surgery. Nowadays there is a category of lasers called “low power lasers” that produce light-dependent chemical reactions in the tissues. Low power lasers have analgesic properties capable of reducing pain, inflammatory mediators and can be used instead of needles in acupuncture to reduce pain. Due to these characteristics, they have been used in the treatment of orofacial pain, including cases of dental hypersensitivity, postoperative pain, mucositis, facial myalgia, temporomandibular joint disorders and neuralgia.
