Practical Exercises in Conventional Periodontal Surgery

Dr. Horia Câlniceanu is a Senior Lecturer in the discipline of Periodontology at the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timișoara, where he carries out teaching and research activities, as well as residency supervision, having clinical experience based on 20 years of private practice.
Since graduation, his main field of interest has been in the surgical sphere, obtaining the titles of Specialist in Dento-Alveolar Surgery in 2009, PhD in Medicine in 2012, Competency in Implantology in 2012, and the title of Senior Specialist in Periodontology in 2021.
He has published and delivered conferences and workshops in the field of periodontal plastic surgery, mucogingival microsurgery, and peri-implant disease.
The workshop aims at the assimilation and deepening of basic knowledge in periodontal surgery, as described by the recent S3 level Clinical Practice Guideline of the European Federation of Periodontology EFP – for stage I–III periodontitis (2020). During the workshop, participants will practice on training specimens (animal mandibles) and, using dedicated periodontal surgery kits (Hu Friedy) and special suturing materials, will perform conventional and resective surgical procedures specific to step 3 of periodontal therapy:
- Access flap
- Distal wedge
- Modified Widman flap
- Apically repositioned flap – partial thickness variant
- Apically repositioned flap – full thickness variant
