“25 Years of Research in Periodontology in Timișoara: A Realistic Assessment”

Established in 2003, the Department of Periodontology (now the University Clinic of Periodontology) has made significant efforts to align itself with the international standards of academic study in this specialty, as well as with the specialty training program itself, which began as a residency in 2009. A particularly difficult task has been and remains the conduct of research in this specialty—a mandatory requirement for the operation of a university clinic and a fundamental characteristic of it—given that research in periodontology was almost entirely absent or occurred only sporadically in the preceding period. Today, the University Clinic of Periodontology in Timișoara enjoys a remarkable reputation among its peers in Romania, as well as within the broader medical academic context, precisely because of the quality and quantity of research—especially clinical research—produced here. This presentation includes several historical milestones and a summary of the interests and content of periodontology research in Timișoara, as reflected in scientific publications, with an emphasis on the topics addressed and their practical relevance, as it serves our colleagues in the profession.
