Title: “Season of the EFP Guidelines” Reaches Its Conclusion: Key Insights from the Guidelines on the Prevention and Treatment of Peri-implant Diseases Presented by: Prof. Dr. Dr. med. dent. Ștefan-Ioan Stratul, Scientific Coordinator: Dr. Horia Călniceanu – UMF “Victor Babeș”, Timișoara

In addition to his academic and research activities, Prof. Stratul has been managing a prestigious private dental clinic in Timișoara since 1991.

He earned his first degree in Dentistry from the Faculty of Dentistry at UMF Victor Babeș Timișoara in 1989, followed by a degree in Orthodox Theology from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași in 1995.

Prof. Stratul Stefan holds three doctoral degrees: one from the University of Medicine in Timișoara, a second from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and a third from Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu. He also holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Endodontics from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

The final installment in the EFP’s series of S3-level Clinical Practice Guidelines—dedicated to the prevention and treatment of peri-implant diseases (2023)—rounds out a vital collection of consensus-based documents that are essential for evidence-based clinical practice in periodontology.

Although still largely unknown or underutilized in Romania, the EFP Guidelines are set to become a foundation for the development of national Clinical Practice Guidelines by the Romanian College of Dentists (CMSR). They are also intended to be integrated into both undergraduate and postgraduate academic curricula.

This presentation aims to familiarize clinicians with these evidence-based approaches to peri-implant disease management, including diagnosis and treatment protocols, clinical scenarios, therapeutic decision pathways, and graded recommendations.

A concise overview will be provided of how this comprehensive guideline evolved—from systematic reviews of the literature to practical recommendations for day-to-day clinical use. Attention will be drawn to key updates and differences compared to previous consensus documents, illustrated with real-world clinical examples.
